I grew up in Toms River, spending some of my earliest memories at clean ocean rallies on the beach and in empty storefronts and church basements where there was a constant flurry of envelope stuffing and people on phones. You would be correct in saying that my parents set me up for the next few decades of civic engagement within the communities in which I live, and a career in social & environmental justice.
I currently work for Sustainable Jersey, a nonprofit in Ewing that assists communities in becoming sustainable: environmentally, economically and socially. I facilitate our regional hubs by bringing together the grassroots leaders in towns across the state together to learn best practices from each other and increase their impact through collaborative models. I also lead our Public Information & Engagement initiative which provides recommendations to local governments on how they can be more transparent and open, while communicating with and engaging the public more effectively. Prior to that, I served as state campaign director for The Citizens Campaign and executive director of Common Cause New Jersey with a focus on training citizens how to effectively advocate for their issues within and outside of government, as well as assisting governments with best practices in transparency, efficiency and various issue reforms such as pay to play reform and public financing.
I believe that it is every citizen's duty to participate in the process ... beyond voting. After all, we are the government. And if we do not like what we see, we have the opportunity to change it. I have dedicated my life to helping others more effectively create those changes while establishing government structures that are ready to receive that engagement. I believe that it is now my turn. I am excited to run for county committee seat to work towards reforming the Democratic Party within our state from the inside. I will push for the Party to support candidates and a platform that is focused on electoral and campaign finance reforms that will help to level the playing field, and redistribute wealth in a way that is far and equitable for all so that economic and social rights are enjoyed by all.
